Friday March 19 2010We had a very good day in Ghana today starting from visiting the West African Senior High School and ending with meeting the Minister of Education. The Ghanaian Minister of Education, Mr. Alex Tettey ENYO, gracefully accepted the invitation to open the JKF event and was very supportive of GTP in Ghana. In the meeting, many questions were asked, such as how many schools are participating, how many themes are proposed, what is a wiki, how and who determines the Learning Circle themes? The Minister was amazed by the video clips footage we had taken in the morning when we met with the students of West African Senior High School.  The students’ video clips showed students discussing the Learning Circle theme, their preliminary research to decide what question they really wanted to know and ask from their Learning Circle partners.Another important meeting we had was with Rev. Dadebo, Director, IGT-GES at the Ministry of Education who shared the background of ICT in Ghana and the development of ICT policies. He said that the MoE in Ghana is proud to participate in the GTP which has contributed to empowering teachers and building their capacities. Even today, innovations are anchored on teachers who were empowered by participating in GTP. He will be joining at JKF and is eager to learn more about GTP!Rescue Mission Ghana team is absolutely fantastic! Adowey, Emanuel, Richard…They are really putting themselves out to make this happen.  No comments on the traffic!

Saturday March 20th 2010 – Identifying a good location for the 2010 JKFThe day started with heavy rains, that made it hard to drive.Again it was a very productive day! Emanuel, Adwoa, Harriet, Bob and Eliane took off from Rescue Mission Ghana and headed to the Forest Hotel. We were received by the hotel manager, toured and visited the rooms, the conference area and the pool. The Internet connection worked well, people were friendly and accommodating. We liked the hotel surroundings (very green), the conference room and the recreation area but had mixed feelings about the set up of the rooms which were mostly double bedrooms. We set off with a full sunshine to the African Royal Beach hotel. All of a sudden we were taken by heavy rain. In 30 min the road was flooded and the weather had cooled down. We arrived at the African Roay hotel by mid-day.  The sound of the waves and the natural settings were both absolutely charming.  We toured the place, the rooms and conference room and wanted to test the connection.  The tech folks were not available and we did not manage to get connected.  We made an appointment with the tech guy for the next day.We met at length in the lobby of the hotel and went over the budget, the pros and cons of each location and decided that the final decision would be made once the budget, bandwidth,  Internet reliability and comparative advantage were done. We also discussed the flow of the program, the opening, possibly including a cultural evening; and what would we do on the day out.We decided to return the next day, check out from Meaglent and spend time at the African Royal Beach hotel to meet the tech folks.

So we did.. We are back at the African Royal Beach hotel now, where we met with the IT technician.  He fixed  the connection and said it would be possible to request a dedicated 256 Kb line for the JKF week!

Today we are working in the conference room! We set up the Spanish wiki and d-groups and now going into the JKF program!

Soon the side of the roads transferred into rivers
First visit was at Forest hotel
topAfter that we arrived at the African Royal Beach Hotel
