After a long drive from the airport of Montreal (Quebec) to Fredericton (New Brunswick) we finally arrived at the campus of the university of St. Thomas. This would be our base camp for the next three nights. We arrived at 5 o’clock. We were exhausted and everything was sore because of the comfortable seats of the bus. The time differance with Holland is now only 5 hours because we past the time border between the province of Quebec and New Brunswick.

We went to our rooms and got some sleep. At 11 we gathered for brunch and met our Canadian partners from Fredericton.

At 11 I noticed that the most of us didn’t sleep very well. Some of us didn’t slept at all. In spite of that we all looked very lively and awake. The brunch buffet in the restaurant looked wonderful. You could eat and drink at much if you wanted. First we met our friendly co-hosts: Mary-jo MacRae Smith and Ruth Giberson. After some friendly words we all attacked like hungry lions the buffet. There was a lot to be eaten. Bacon, eggs, sausages, backed potatoes, pancakes, different kind of juices, muffins, rije bread, and so on. Too much.

The students were wondered of this kind of food. They enjoyed it very much.

After the wonderful brunch we were set to discover the beautiful city of Fredericton. The students were provided with a digital camera to explore and tape the city. They will be editing this self-made tape tomorrow at a school with a special editing program.

At 1 pm we started our tour at the provincial parliament house in the centre of the city. At the front of the provincial parliament house we met the students of Albert Street College and Scott, a teacher of Albert Street College. We also met a Calithumpian. He is a historical tour guide. He showed us his town for the next 2 hours. He told us very funny stories and a lot of historical facts. The city has many beautiful houses and historical sites. During the tour we noticed that there was a demonstration in the city against abortion. We also noticed that the city is very widespread over a large area. Fredericton is a university-town with approximately 50.000 inhabitants.

Late in the afternoon we arrived back at our base camp. We took a little break. Some of us were very tired. In the evening there would be a separated program for the students and the teachers. The students of our group and of Albert street college went laser gaming and bowling. The students were under supervision of Mary-jo en Kevin Breen. The teachers stayed at the campus for a great supper at the campus restaurant, witch was followed with a visit at the campus bup

At 9 pm the students arrived. AT 10 pm almost everyone goes to bed. It has been a relaxing first day and we noticed that the Canadians were very friendly and hospitable.
